In Automation singleplayer, you can choose between four gamemodes. These game modes are:
- Sandbox - Freely design cars as you please
- Tutorial - Teaches you certain engine design and car engineering basics
- Scenario - Build an engine or car that can fulfill certain pre-defined requirements
- Campaign - Run a car company from its year of founding, to 2020 - or its financial decline, whichever comes first. Two campaigns currently exist, the Light Campaign, in its V3 iteration, and the Grand Campaign, which is not yet released.
